REDTAG, Ibn Battuta Mall

For those families who are looking for fashion and homewares at a value price, look no further than new store REDTAG.
Similar to UK brand Matalan, REDTAG claims it brings ‘365 days of value’ to Dubai. Its first store at Ibn Battuta Mall is the tip of a UAE expansion after success in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and the company plans to open a further 12 stores in the next few years.

So what does ‘365 days of value’ look like?

The large one-level store is fairly easy to navigate. It’s split between girls, boys, men, women and homewares; with the kids’ section carved up further into age groups from newborn to early teenagers. Although REDTAG aims to cater for the whole family, there is little in-store for teenagers and young adults, it’s more for mums and young kids which is handy for families.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
Young children have an abundance of choice in this store and often the ranges and clothes are smaller imitations of what is on the high street at the moment.

Little girls have tiny polka dot dresses, T-shirts featuring cool slogans, kittens and plenty of pink sparkles.

For dhs29 kids can have 60’s style T-shirts asking for peace and three to four year-olds can find themselves dressed in flashy purple jeans for only dhs49.

Bows and beach hats can be found in abundance as can shoes for kids from six months to ten or 11 years.

For your little soldier, REDTAG offers a lot of khaki and camouflage patterns with trucker caps and flat caps available for dhs19. There’s also plenty of BMX T-shirts, rugby shirts and long shorts - staple wardrobe items of any young boy.

That’s pretty much the gist of REDTAG - it’s perfect for basics, which is fantastic considering how fast kids grow.

A FAMILY AFFAIR
For mums and dads the fashion range is more limited but again as long as you’re not expecting to find cutting edge or designer fashion in REDTAG you’ll be OK.

For mums, long skirts, maxi dresses, T-shirts and a large selection of sleepwear (sensible rather than sensual) is the name of the game. And with wrap dresses clocking in at dhs59 and a pair of pyjama bottoms only costing dhs29, you can afford to stock up.

Dads’ clothes are similar to those in the boys section except larger and with a few less pictures of dumper trucks!

ALL ABOUT THE HOME
Linen and homewares are very reasonably priced, with several multipack deals such as two towels for dhs42.

You can also pick up a duvet for dhs79. In terms of homewares, REDTAG has an Arabic feel, with plenty of browns and dark reds, similar to the style you might find in Home Centre, but with a cushion for dhs19, you can’t really argue with the store’s value claims!

To keep kids quiet while you shop, send them to the small toy section which offers lots of simple distractions like playhouses and jigsaws and if you’re looking for baby shower presents, there’s plenty of bits and pieces here.

REDTAG is located in the India Court in Ibn Battuta Mall. It’s open from Sunday to Wednesday 10am to 10pm and Thursday to Saturday 10am to midnight.

About Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai (دبي) is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It is rather like an independent city-state and is the most modern and progressive emirate in the UAE.

A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies (by regional standards), and excellent tourist amenities. Just 5 hrs from Europe and 3 hrs from most parts of the Middle East, the Near East, and the sub-continent of India, Dubai makes a great short break for shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and even a few sinful pleasures. It is a city of superlatives: for the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest, Dubai is the destination.

The weekly day off is on Friday. Note that, since September 2006, a harmonised weekend of Friday and Saturday has been adopted for the public sector and schools. Government departments, multi-national companies, and most schools and universities are now off on Friday and Saturday (after years of a mixed bag of Friday/Saturday and Thursday/Friday weekends). Some local companies still work a half day on Thursday with a full-day on Saturday.
