We all love a bit of gossip about actress Angelina Jolie, and her picture on the cover will see any magazine fly off the shelves.

But while you might turn the page to find out what she and partner Brad Pitt are up to, would your interest stretch as far as an openly ‘unauthorised’ biography?

That’s what publishers are set to find out soon with the release of ‘Angelina’ by infamous warts-and-all biographer Andrew Morton, after a first printing of 150,000 copies was announced on the back of her latest spy thriller ‘Salt’.

The book includes intimate details on her troubled childhood and difficult relationship with her father, the actor John Voight. Former husbands Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller also feature, as well as her years with movie heart-throb Pitt.

But in an age when gossip rages like wildfire online with the internet, will an unauthorised account of Jolie’s life sell?

Morton’s editor, Hope Dellon of St Martin’s Press, says: “There is much more competition from the tabloids and the internet, so you have to go beyond the day-to-day gossip. It’s got to go deeper than that. It’s got to have some fresh insight and revelations, and we think Andrew’s book does.”
Patricia Bostelman, of publishers Barnes and Noble Inc, says: “Sales of tell-all celebrity biographies have been negatively impacted by the information that is available on the internet or in print.

“The Morton book is also competing with all the press Jolie has been getting around the launch of ‘Salt,’ in which she is deliberately staying on message about her life with Brad and the kids. The audience has often read all the key revelations prior to publication.”

Morton has enjoyed success when working with his subject, such as Princess Diana and Monica Lewinsky. And, even though Jolie has not cooperated with this book, identified sources include a childhood caretaker, an alleged former drug dealer and a close friend of Jolie’s mother, the late Marcheline Bertrand. Unnamed friends and associates are cited for allegations that Jolie fought with Winona Ryder on ‘Girl, Interrupted’.

A critique of Pitt’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, is offered by  “a psychologist who has met with Jennifer socially,” while insights on Pitt-Jolie were provided by a “psychologist in the Brad, Angie and Jennifer circle”.

“It’s a dilemma, because there are people working in Hollywood who if we used their names would have every door closed on them,” Dellon says. “We make sure that what they say seems plausible and they seem to know what they’re talking about.”

About Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai (دبي) is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. It is rather like an independent city-state and is the most modern and progressive emirate in the UAE.

A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies (by regional standards), and excellent tourist amenities. Just 5 hrs from Europe and 3 hrs from most parts of the Middle East, the Near East, and the sub-continent of India, Dubai makes a great short break for shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and even a few sinful pleasures. It is a city of superlatives: for the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest, Dubai is the destination.

The weekly day off is on Friday. Note that, since September 2006, a harmonised weekend of Friday and Saturday has been adopted for the public sector and schools. Government departments, multi-national companies, and most schools and universities are now off on Friday and Saturday (after years of a mixed bag of Friday/Saturday and Thursday/Friday weekends). Some local companies still work a half day on Thursday with a full-day on Saturday.
