Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said yesterday that it had received bids from 14 companies in response to a tender for a consultancy project in power generation and desali-nated sea water.
DEWA said that the project met with “overwhelming interest and by various establishment specialised in the field of consultancy in independent water and power production projects”.
In January the utility said it wanted to boost private sector involvement in its power and water sector to save costs.
The decision to invite private sector involvement is a policy change from the government which previously owned and operated all plants in Dubai.
