Scotland finally managed to pick up a point in the this year’s Six Nations thanks to a bore draw against England in a bruising encounter at Murrayfield.
Both sides came into the clash with something to prove. Scotland lost to Italy 16-12 last time out and were keen to remind everyone, not least the old enemy, that they are capable of rucking over some big reputations.
And having lost to Ireland last time out England were also expected to come out on fire.
But, as with so often in their recent past, England looked short on ideas and nothing short of rubbish in the first-half as the Scots took the game to Martin Johnson’s side.
The hosts deserved their 9-6 lead at the break.
All their points came from the boot of fly-half Dan Parks who slotted two penalties and a drop goal through the posts. England kept in touch through the boot of Jonny Wilkinson who got two penalties.
The star stand-off then got the visitors on level terms almost straight after the break with yet another penalty. And with Wilko off the pitch after getting a bash on the head, Toby Flood then kicked England into a 12-9 lead.
James Haskell was then penalised for not releasing the man and Parks hit over a tester from wide to bring the match back to parity - exciting it wasn’t, tense it most certainly was.
Another exchange of penalties levelled the scores at 15-15. But try as they might neither side were able to get the winning score in a dull display.
